Aminocaproic acid in the nose for children and adults: reviews, instructions for use

The modern pharmaceutical industry is not standing still, and now dozens of new drugs for colds and rhinitis appear on the shelves of pharmacies. But, looking at all this abundance, do not forget about effective and proven over the years means, which are remembered only by the doctors of the old school.

One of these drugs, effective and inexpensive, is aminocaproic acid.

Despite the fact that the drug is considered to be a good hemostatic (hemostatic) agent, it is successfully used for the treatment and prevention of ENT diseases. For this purpose, use a 5% solution of the drug.

Aminocaproic acid is administered in the nose to adults and children in the same way as other antiviral drops. Hemostatic is well tolerated and does not have an undesirable effect on the patient’s body.

Properties and mechanism of action

Aminocaproic acid or, as the experts call it, ACC is a non-prescription drug that is available at any pharmacy. The drug is well known and has long been used in surgery and gynecology to stop bleeding.

But the instructions for use do not say anything about its capabilities in the treatment of ENT diseases.

However, if you read the abstract more closely, it becomes clear why doctors recommend this remedy for the treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis.

In addition to the hemostatic effect, ACC has several valuable properties in otolaryngology:

  • antihistamine and anti-edema effects
  • vessel strengthening effect
  • local antiviral activity.

Due to these qualities, the drug quickly eliminates swelling of the mucous membranes and nasal congestion, reduces the amount of secreted secretions, relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Helps with nosebleeds and strengthens blood vessels.

Antiviral action allows the use of medication for the prevention of respiratory diseases, influenza, herpes and other infections, as well as after surgical interventions in the nasal cavity.

Indications for use

Aminocaproic acid shows good results in the treatment of the following ENT diseases:

  • allergic, chronic or acute rhinitis
  • sinusitis, sinusitis, adenoiditis
  • throat infections (laryngitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis)
  • flu, acute respiratory infections, SARS
  • inflammatory disease of the trachea and bronchi.

The drug has no age limit and is allowed for use in children, including babies. However, despite the many advantages, aminocaproic acid should not be used separately.

The tool gives the maximum effect only in the complex therapy.

Mode of application

On the shelves of pharmacies ACC is presented in two forms:

  • powder for internal use, packaged in individual bags
  • solution of 5% acid in bottles of 100 and 200 ml.

Both forms of the drug are applicable for the treatment of ENT diseases, but the ready solution is much more often used.

Aminocaproic acid with a cold is buried in the nose 5–6 times a day. The dosage depends on the age of the patient.

Babies are given 1–2 drops in each nasal passage, the number of adults increases to 4–5 drops. Treatment continues until complete recovery.

In order to prevent respiratory infections in the season, the number of procedures is reduced to 2-3 times per day. Accordingly, the dosage of the drug is reduced.

Aminocaproic acid for children

Aminocaproic acid is very widely used in pediatrics. It is recommended for use from the first days of a newborn’s life and allows you to quickly cope with nasal congestion without traumatizing the mucous membrane.

Very often, ACC is appointed as part of the complex treatment of sinusitis and adenoiditis in children.

In addition, due to antiviral activity, the use of the drug is very effective for the treatment and prevention of colds, acute respiratory infections, SARS and influenza.

In the acute course of the disease, it is possible to use ACC by mouth, as well as inhalation with 5% solution, washing and turunda in the nose. During treatment, the agent must be combined with other antiviral and immunostimulating drugs.

Aminocaproic acid in the nose for children under one year old should be instilled only as directed by the pediatrician.

Procedure technique

The use of ACC depends on the available ailments. Most often, the drug is used for the following procedures:

  • instillation of nose
  • inhalation
  • nozzle inserted into the nostrils
  • washes.

The process of instillation of aminocaproic acid is no different from the introduction of other nasal drops and usually does not create any problems. The only thing worth mentioning is that the drug solution must be warm.

To do this, it must be dipped in hot water or hold for some time in your hands.

We will talk about other procedures in more detail.

This type of therapy is usually used for severe cough and sore throat, adenoiditis, and chronic or acute rhinitis. This is one of the most effective methods of dealing with respiratory infections in both the acute and chronic stages.

Inhalation with acid does not include the inhalation of hot steam. At home, the procedure should be carried out only with the use of a nebulizer. A treatment session will require an equal amount of medication and saline.

The mixture is poured into the apparatus and used for treatment. Inhalation using a nebulizer can be done even the smallest from the first days of life.

The procedure is performed 60 minutes after eating. In the future, you should not drink, take food and leave the premises for one and a half hours.

Nose wash

Regarding the benefits of this procedure and its safety, the opinion of pediatricians is ambiguous. Most of them believe that doing nasal washing at home should not be.

However, it is not always possible to frequently visit the doctor for an event, so if you follow all the recommendations, you can clean your nose yourself.

The procedure is performed using a syringe, syringe or teapot. The solution should be warm.

If the drug seems too concentrated, it is permissible to dilute it with water.

Washing the nose will quickly get rid of thick mucus and pus, clear the mucous membrane and stop the inflammatory process.

Another simple method of applying ACC is turunda in the nasal cavity. They are made of cotton wool or gauze, impregnated with a 5% solution of acid and inserted into the nostrils for 5-15 minutes.

The procedure is recommended several times a day until the symptoms of the ailment are completely eliminated.

Turunda perfectly help with sinusitis, adenoiditis and rhinitis, quickly remove the inflammatory process, reduce puffiness, clean the sinuses and strengthen the blood vessels of the mucous membrane.

ACC and cold

The benefits of aminocaproic acid for colds and other respiratory diseases are based on its antiviral effect. The tool not only destroys the pathogenic infection in the nasopharynx, but also prevents its penetration into the human body.

The introduction of funds into the nasal cavity or rinsing of the pharynx reduces the production of mucus, stops the inflammatory process, reduces pain and facilitates breathing.

Adenoid Therapy

With adenoid vegetations, a pathological increase in the pharyngeal tonsil occurs. Depending on the size of the growth there are several stages of development of the disease.

The first signs of the disease appear in 3-4 years. The child suffers from a cold and snoring at night, the nose is constantly stuffed, a dry cough appears.

More recently, the operation to remove the adenoids was considered the only way out in this situation.

Recently, however, pediatricians have chosen a different treatment tactic and do not recommend taking drastic measures for up to 7–8 years. With proper and timely treatment, the pathology by this age usually becomes obsolete, which is greatly facilitated by the use of ACC.

Instillation of aminocaproic acid in the nose at an early stage of adenoid growths can completely eliminate the disease. For best results, it is recommended to alternate the procedure with the inhalation of 5% solution.

This contributes to the rapid localization of the symptoms of the pathology and the elimination of inflammation.

In addition, when the adenoids will be useful turunds impregnated with the drug. They should be inserted into the nose several times a day for 10-15 minutes.

It is usually enough 4–5 days for the patient to feel a noticeable relief.

Treatment of rhinitis

Aminocaproic acid very well helps with rhinitis of any nature. Regular use of nasal drops can relieve swelling of the mucous membrane and strengthen blood vessels, eliminate congestion and significantly reduce the amount of discharge.

Aminocaproic acid when applied topically does not require any additional restrictions in the interaction with other drugs. Therapeutic course in rhinitis is at least a week and, if necessary, may be increased.

Aminocaproic acid for pregnant women

The great advantage of the drug is its complete safety when applied topically. That is why the drug can be used not only by children, but also by women during the period of childbearing and breastfeeding.

ACC will not do any harm at any gestational age.

Side effects

Contraindications to the use of aminocaproic acid are few, but they are still there. The drug should not be used for the following pathologies:

  • Severe kidney disease.
  • Thrombohemorrhagic syndrome (DIC).
  • Disturbances in the circulatory system (thrombosis, thrombophilia).
  • Allergic reaction to the drug.

Most of these contraindications relate exclusively to oral medications. Well, since there is no need to drink the solution in the treatment of the common cold and nasal congestion, the only problem is individual intolerance.

Allergies often manifest themselves with itching and a burning sensation in the nose, redness of the eyes and a sharp increase in mucosal edema. In this case, it is necessary to immediately rinse the nasal cavity and rinse your mouth with water.

Reviews of aminocaproic acid, most often positive. Many praise the drug for a good result and low price. Those who are dissatisfied with the remedy believe that it does not quickly and effectively eliminate nasal congestion.

But the medicine is not intended for this.

In the treatment of ENT diseases, aminocaproic acid is, of course, not a panacea. On the shelves of pharmacies exhibited a lot of modern and effective drugs that are in no way inferior to her, and somewhere even superior. But ACC has one indisputable advantage over them – it is security and no side effects.

And the low price makes it even more popular.
