Drugs in liquid form are an integral component of the treatment of diseases, accompanied by cough, both dry and wet. One of these is the Bronholitin cough syrup from Bulgarian producer Sopharma.
It is a combination drug with bronchodilating and antitussive action. The unique composition of the drug allows you to quickly and effectively get rid of the cough symptom.
The composition and effect of the drug
The main active substances that make up Bronholitin are ephedrine and glaucine. The first provides improved airway patency by relaxing the smooth muscles of the bronchi.
The second component acts as an antitussive.
Glaucine, being an antitussive component of the central action, does not inhibit respiration and does not cause drug dependence. Under the influence of ephedrine, the bronchi are expanded and respiration is stimulated.
Bronchodilating effect of the drug helps to reduce bronchial obstruction and improves the output of sputum. The presence of basil oil in the Bronholitin compound provides a calming, anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect.
Syrup is available in 125 ml bottles. Drug liquid has a viscous consistency.
The maximum effect of the drug occurs 1.5 hours after it enters the body. Well absorbed in the digestive tract, the components of the drug are metabolized mainly by the liver and excreted in the urine.
Indications and Contraindications
What cough is Bronholitin used for? This cough syrup is prescribed for the treatment of various inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system, accompanied by symptoms such as dry cough (whooping cough, tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.).
With a dry cough, Bronholitin will have a double effect: it will ease the cough attack by acting on the corresponding center in the brain. But at the same time there will be no stagnation of sputum in the bronchi, since the intake of syrup contributes to their expansion, and, therefore, it will be easier to exit.
Regarding the admission rules, the syrup instruction is prescribed by oral administration of the drug after meals. The course of treatment lasts 5-7 days.
- adults and children from 10 years – 10 ml
- from 5 to 10 years – 5 ml
- from 3 to 5 years – 5 ml.
Adults should take the drug 4 times a day, and children – 3 times. For children from 3 to 5 years, the syrup must be pre-diluted with a small amount of water.
Drug syrup has contraindications. It is not prescribed for individual intolerance to the components of the medicinal product, it is not suitable for children under 3 years old.
Its reception is also undesirable in the first 12 weeks of gestation and during breastfeeding. Persons with arterial hypertension, thyrotoxicosis, angle-closure glaucoma, pheochromocytoma should refuse to take this syrup.
Patients with myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease and diseases with manifestations of decompensation use Bronholitina is not recommended. When urine retention is associated with hypertrophy of the prostate gland, the drug in question is also contraindicated.
What you need to pay attention to?
Against the background of Bronholitin use, the patient may experience adverse reactions. The influence of the components of the drug on the human cardiovascular system is determined by the appearance of such conditions as increased blood pressure and increased heart rate, the development of extrasystoles.
In rare cases, the intake of syrup may be accompanied by dysmenorrhea and increased levels of sexual desire. As a dermatological manifestation, a rash or sweating may appear.
Care must be taken and patients with pathology of the urinary system, in particular, may have difficulty urinating.
Failure can also be caused by the central nervous system in the form of excessive excitation and insomnia, the appearance of tremor and drowsiness. Since the drug is taken orally, dyspeptic symptoms are possible, such as nausea and vomiting, delayed stool.
To prevent a negative impact on the central nervous system, it is necessary to distribute the Bronholitin intake during the day so that the latter falls at 16-00. If the patient has a tendency to drug dependence, the appointment and reception of Bronholitina should be carried out with caution.
If the professional or other activity of a person who is treated with Bronholitin is related to the need for concentration, then you must be careful, as there may be visual impairment and spontaneous dizziness.
As for drug interactions, it is necessary to know which drugs can not be used simultaneously with Bronholitin. In this regard, the following is important:
- syrup can weaken the effect of hypnotic drugs due to the content of ephedrine
- ephedrine does not combine with MAO inhibitors because of the risk of a sharp increase in blood pressure
- a combination of taking Bronholitin with tricyclic antidepressants and cardiac glycosides can provoke a heart rhythm disorder
- simultaneous intake with beta-blockers may lead to a decrease in the bronchodilator effect.
Syrup is recommended to be stored at a temperature up to 25 degrees in a place protected from light. After opening the bottle, the shelf life of the drug is reduced to 30 days.
