Kofex Cough Syrup is a combination preparation with antitussive and antihistamine (antiallergic) properties. The main active components of the drug – codeine phosphate and chlorpheniramine maleate – not only complement well, but also enhance the effectiveness of each other’s actions.
Release form: Kofeks is sold in dark bottles made of polymeric materials (each volume is 60 ml). In the cardboard box with the drug is also enclosed 1 measuring cap.
How syrup works
Chlorpheniramine maleate – an active substance with pronounced antiallergic properties, reduces the intensity of symptoms, the appearance of which is associated with the release of histamine. So, this component helps to eliminate the swelling, nasal congestion, reduces the permeability of the vascular walls, copes with heavy tearing, shows a mild sedative (hypnotic) effect.
Codeine phosphate acts on the cough center of the brain, thereby blocking seizures. Overdose is fraught with respiratory dysfunction.
The pharmacological properties of codeine are similar to morphine, but at the same time, the former exhibits less pronounced analgesic activity.
Within one and a half to two hours, the active components of Kofex syrup are absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, about 90% of the accepted dose of codeine and chlorpheniramine is excreted (mainly by the kidneys) during the day.
When Kofex’s reception is indicated:
- in respiratory diseases of various nature
- for relief of unproductive cough
- for the purpose of symptomatic treatment of allergic, infectious diseases.
