Examination of the internal organs using ultrasound can detect malformations, general condition, and detect hidden pathologies. Often, an ultrasound scan is prescribed to confirm or refute the presumptive diagnosis, as well as to monitor the therapeutic process in order to notice a positive or negative trend.
High-frequency sound vibrations easily penetrate through air-filled objects, and from dense structures (kidneys, liver, gallbladder) are reflected. Special sensors pick up the signal and visualize structures of different density on the screen.
Sometimes complex ultrasound of the abdominal organs, kidneys and organs of the small pelvis is performed immediately.
Preparation for abdominal ultrasound is extremely important in order to obtain reliable data from the survey. Such a diagnosis is carried out both for adults and children.
Good preparation for research is necessary at any age.
In some cases, an ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs (OBP) is done even by an infant. What kind of training is necessary for such patients? Pediatricians and neonatologists give such recommendations for the preparation of a newborn:
- Before the scheduled ultrasound procedure, you must skip the last feeding. Before the ultrasound should take 3-4 hours.
- The last time to drink a child can be 60 before the study. This is due to the fact that the pancreas produces enzymes even after taking ordinary water.
- 2-3 days before the study, it would be good to give the baby Simethicone, Espuzin, Infacol or other drugs that will contribute to the discharge of gases and reduce flatulence.
If the child has not yet reached the full 3 years, then he is not recommended to eat 4 hours before the scheduled examination. In this regard, parents are trying to record their baby on ultrasound closer to dinner, so that they do not have to refuse breakfast.
Properly prepared for the ultrasound to children older than 3 years will help adherence to a special diet. Approximately three days before the study, you need to refuse such food:
- Whole milk and food cooked on it. A few days should be boiled pots on the water, so as not to provoke flatulence.
- Legumes (peas and beans). As a rule, kids eagerly eat such foods, but they also contribute to increased gas formation, so for two days they should be abandoned.
- Bakery products. Sweet buns and other pastries due to yeast and sugar can cause severe flatulence.
- Raw vegetables that are digested for a long time.
- Fresh fruits that have a direct effect on intestinal peristalsis.
In preparation for the procedure, it is allowed to leave in the diet the following products: oatmeal, yachka, buckwheat, boiled in water, chicken and veal, low-fat boiled fish or steamed, chicken (1), quail (2) eggs, low-fat cheese. To facilitate the work of the digestive tract should adhere to the fractional power, and distribute meals 5 times.
Dinner on the eve of the study should be light.
In adult patients, preparation for ultrasound of the abdominal organs also raises many questions. Can I drink water?
What can you eat in front of an abdominal ultrasound? How to prepare if the ultrasound is scheduled in the afternoon?
The prudent patient listens to all recommendations of the attending physician and prepares for the examination of the internal organs in advance.
The following describes what to do in the preparation process. Since the examination should be carried out on an empty stomach, before the procedure should take about 8 hours after the last meal. Snacking before ultrasound should also be abandoned.
2-3 days before the scheduled examination, Espumizan or Activated Carbon should be drunk.
Simethicone-based drugs take 1-2 tablets after each meal. And they drink coal regardless of food at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of weight.
If the patient suffers from constipation, then a cleansing enema is prescribed 2 days before the examination. For 3 days before the ultrasound should eat, adhering to the principles of a slab-free diet.
On drugs that must be taken on an ongoing basis, the patient should consult with his doctor or diagnostician in advance. Perhaps they will have to be abandoned for a while.
It is forbidden to drink alcohol 48 hours prior to the study, and before the time has come to enter the ultrasound diagnostic room it is forbidden to smoke.
Drink before ultrasound is also impossible (with the exception of the examination on the kidneys). After the last fluid intake before the study should take at least 4 hours. It is necessary to eat fractional and often, while the food should not drink down.
Proper drinking mode – 1, 5 liters per day. Drink should be 30 before meals and 1 hour after.
Food from which to abstain before conducting an abdominal ultrasound:
- fatty meat and fish
- beans, peas, lentils
- whole milk
- bakery and pastry
- sour milk fatty foods
- rye bread
- carbon dioxide drinks
- vegetables and fruits in their raw form.
Properly prepare for ultrasound of the abdominal organs to help cleanse the bowel. If you are preparing with a cleansing enema, then it should be done no later than 18:00 on the eve of the study.
Alternatively, you can use alternative cleansing with the help of pharmacies: herbal-based laxative drugs (Senade, X-Lax), Fortrans oral medication, Norgalax micro micly enema.
Drugs based on lactulose (Portalak, Normolact, Laktuvit) are not recommended to be taken before the examination. Quite often they provoke increased peristalsis and flatulence in the stomach, which only interfere with ultrasound.
So, do you need to prepare for the ultrasound of the peritoneum? Definitely – needed.
A patient who is to undergo such a diagnosis (or his child) should have a good understanding of how to prepare for an abdominal ultrasound scan. This will help get the most objective results.
